Closed Doors, Open Hearts (and Legs?)
venue: theatre
date: Sat, 26 April
time: 3:30pm- 4:45pm
Queer women in Singapore have always carved out spaces for themselves. Whether it's SLANG (Singapore Lesbians Are Naughty Girls), one of the earliest informal queer women's social groups, or a thriving collective, bar, monthly party, or rock climbing gang, queer women have created spaces for joy, resistance, and community for decades. What does it take to keep these spaces alive? This panel dives into the highs and hurdles of organising for queer women: What challenges and milestones have the sapphics seen? And with shifting trends—digital meetups, sober spaces, moving beyond binaries and labels—what do queer women actually want and need today?

Marylyn Tan - panel moderator
Marylyn Tan is a queer, female Chinese Singaporean writer-artist. Her work disrespects respectability and reclaims power. Her first bookchild, GAZE BACK, is a poetic lesbo trans-genre grimoire that made her the first woman poet to clinch the Singapore Literature Prize in history. Find her at instagr.am/marylyn.orificial
Lychee Bye (they/she/he)
Lychee Bye is Singapore's little red thot. Despite being the tiniest showgirl on the island (for now), this burlesque powerhouse has performed with the likes of The Cocoa Butter Club (UK), The Bitten Peach (UK), RIOT! (SG), t:works (SG) and The Perth International Burlesque Festival (AU). She is the creative producer behind The Fruit Basket, a development programme for fresh nonbinary burlesque & drag talent, and the founder of sunz, a horoscope-themed lesbian party series. She's an avid consumer of parties, and lesbians.

Joanne Chen (she/her)
Joanne has dedicated nearly a decade to advocating for the LGBTQ+ community through creating inclusive spaces that empower marginalised voices. Previously, she was a key member of the Pink Dot Organising Committee, growing their volunteer pool to over 500 individuals.
Now, as Centre Manager of Proud Spaces, Joanne creates a safe, welcoming environment for the community, curating programming and supporting more than 40 LGBTQ+ groups across Singapore.
Together with a group of queer women community leaders, Joanne launched Queer Women Socials – a monthly gathering that sparks meaningful conversations and offers connection among queer women and non-binary individuals.

Amelia Ang (She/Her)
Amelia is passionate about creating safe and inclusive queer spaces and has been a part of the Two Queens Asia team since 2017.
